For me drag and drop works fine with built 4140 and Vista. Maybe you can try to completely uninstall MediaCoder and then install the newest version?

For me it also only works if the safe mode option is turned on.

There is a brightness and contrast slider if you go into the picture tab and click on "effects".

I think you can do that using shift or strg + the up and down arrows on your keyboard. A button in the gui would still be good though.

The optimized binaries are not always up to date so it's possible something changed in MediaCoder afterwards and broke something important. Maybe Stanley can look into this, I haven't used an optimization pack in a long time. But it's time I try to use the most recent build and the optimization pack...
