Re: Higher resolution or Higher Quantitizer quality?
by the way, I overlooked that you seem to talk about constant QP (quantization parameter), rather than CRF. Per the reading that i've done, CRF seems to result in better perceived quality at same file size. e.g. here: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=760285#post760285 http://slhck.info/articl...

Re: Human Readable xml files
I second that :) I use the very lightweight xml editor from http://www.firstobject.com/ to prettify all my saved presets. Makes it easier also to use WinMerge afterwards to figure out differences. I notice this website also promotes a c++ library (and maybe some other languages). Perhaps of use to S...

Re: Higher resolution or Higher Quantitizer quality?
an interesting question. I've read once (don't remember where) that higher resolution should give the better result; but I that was many years ago in DIVX times - when people were downsizing way more... so (example) downsizing 720p to 480p vs 320p, there's a lot of detail lost in 320p... and doubt a...

change in UI for x264 CRF setting - warning about old preset
I was a little miffed today, when my conversion resulted in bizarrely small files. Just before, I had done a new clean install (+revert settings) of build 0.8.29.5600 (Mar 2014) - replacing 0.8.28.5588 (Jan) - there were a few builds in between that I never tried I soon realized that the UI for vide...

Re: Build 5588: mode 'Subtitle stream' does nothing
I've had my own worries with soft subtitles, although I don't need it often and have not retested lately. I'm far from an expert, but it's been for years been my understanding that mp4 container either doesn't allow soft subtitle streams, or if it does, several encoders & players don't handle it wel...

Re: Feature "save intermediate files on error" saves always
Did a batch of 20 files few days ago. Build 5573. One of these ended on error 15, and for (only) that one, the intermediate files were left in %TEMP% So it seems that "Save intermediate files: On Error" works as intended (in build 5573). :) (now, if only it had also saved the commandline for the mux...

Re: 0.8.27.5572 m2ts issue?
try 5573 on the facebook group https://www.facebook.com/groups/mediacoder/ Stanley Huang The MediaInfo component is not working properly in recently released MediaCoder build 5572. Please update to 5573 to eliminate this issue. Sorry for the trouble. I could imagine that having an impact on your cas...

Re: Feature "save intermediate files on error" saves always
yes - that's with 'save on error' (to be honest, I have not yet tested build 5572 with other values for that setting. I installed it, put the setting on 'save on error', did an encode, it failed with error 15, and intermediate files were missing I repeated the same encode (same file, same settings),...

Re: How to convert HD videos to Samsung Galaxy Star Pro's sc
well, the smart thing would be to educate yourself on video encoding - and meRobs gave you plenty of reading to do so. Alternatively, use the "Revert all settings (CTRL+ALT+R)" option (File), and try this preset: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?> <MediaCoderPrefs> <node key="overall.generic.pr...

Re: Feature "save intermediate files on error" saves always
Bad news. I installed 5572 over 5570, using the update.exe package. I've tried to recode an mp4 (x264/aac) to lower bitrate mp4; twice; with "save intermediate stream on Error". on both occasions, I ended up - with error 15 - intermediate files deleted from %temp% afterwards. (I'm suspecting that er...
