Actually my colleagues who need to use MediaCoder to get an mp4 from mpeg2 preferred to use a second program to cut the video more accurately the way they needed it and then just throw it in MC to encode.

I was just testing the process priority in task manager before you posted and it seems it's working!
I set it up as "Realtime" for the AverTV recording software and it's not jerky anymore... even though i find it pretty weird
