No, I had already installed an earlier version as suggested by the link above. And there I noticed no difference between disabling or leaving the multiplexer in the default.

You didn't say what version/build of MediaCoder you are using? Also, what exactly is your AVI video settings? You view those by clicking on the MediaCoder's video tab.
