Ok, I ran the same check again but entered a time approx 10 seconds before the end of the film and got the same error.

I get exactly the same thing. I'm running version 0.6.2.4242 on Vista Ultimate - Q6600 Quad proc with 4gb ram. I would download the IPod/ITouch version http://mediacoder.sourceforge.net/device/ipod_touch.html this makes it very easy to do so. If you're after saving space then I found you can get the average movie down to about 250mb depending on length I used H.264 - 2 Pass 256Kb 25 FPS 320 x 240 screen res....
