I also use Philips stand-alone DVD players. One is video system component and one is portable. Both have USB input so any FAT32 formatted drive can be hooked to them. My portable unit has a 10.2" diagonal, 800x480 native resolution screen. I encode my videos to 720x480 using DivX Home Theater profil...

Oh BTW, if you're into DivX or Xvid, Virtuadub now has FREE mpeg2/vob and ACS audio plugins. Virtuadub has great audio multiplexing and batch control. I hear that Xvid is at least as good, if not better and it's free! They're both hacked versions of the original mp4 standard. This whole business has gotten way to complicated.
